Communicable Diseases Control Center ( CDCC- Baghdad) in Iraq is one of the departments of public health directorate/ Ministry of Health. It is established with this name at 1989; but the beginning is started in 1946 as (Endemic Disease Institute) which was responsible for controlling Malaria, Leishmaniasis and Bilharzia; then expanded in work to include all reported communicable diseases in Iraq since that time. Now, the center include the following sections: Acute Respiratory Section, Acute Enteric Section, Zoonotic Section, Bilharziasis & Enteric Helminthiasis Section, Malaria Section, Surveillance Section and Vector Control Section, in addition to administrative section; each section is responsible for control and prevention of group of diseases in cooperation with corresponding units in provincial public health directorate and supportive government structures and organizations according to annual national plans for all communicable diseases.

Achievements: No indigenous malaria case since 2008; No indigenous schistosomiasis case since 2010; No polio cases since 2014.
Vision: Reducing morbidity and mortality rates resulting from communicable diseases to the extent that they do not cause a health, economic and social problem according to the standards of the World Health Organization.
CDCC- Baghdad is responsible for planning and monitoring implementation of the annual plan in all provinces, capacity building of health workers at all levels (province, district, PHCCs) in order to strengthen early detection of cases and ensure rapid response to any reporting of the included diseases.
CDCC- Baghdad is a training center for post graduate student as part of the memorandum of understanding with ministry of higher education.
