Representatives from Egypt’s Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) recently conducted a series of field visits to sentinel sites across the country as part of the ongoing Meningitis and Septicemia Mapping Network (MenMap) project activities. The visits were conducted to ensure that each site adheres to standardized protocols and to address any emerging challenges.
Sentinel site visits included the sites of Abbasia Fever Hospital in Greater Cairo, Zagazig Fever Hospital in the Delta region, Sohag Fever Hospital in Upper Egypt, and Ghardaqa Fever Hospital on the Red Sea boundaries. The visits offered valuable opportunities for the representatives to assess the project’s progress on the ground, verify adherence to procedural standards, and offer direct support to hospital teams.
By closely collaborating with field teams at each site, MoHP representatives identified and proactively addressed operational concerns, enhancing the smooth and coordinated implementation of the MenMap project. This approach strengthens site operations, promotes consistency across all sentinel sites, and supports effective project progression within the MenMap network.
MenMap is an international initiative designed to bridge gaps in research, clinical practice, and public health policies to prevent bacterial meningitis and septicemia caused by Neisseria meningitidis (N. meningitidis), Streptococcus pneumoniae (S. pneumoniae), and Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib). The network, composed of public and private sector researchers, seeks to bolster laboratory diagnosis, epidemiological surveillance, and knowledge transfer to policymakers and healthcare providers in countries where the diseases are most prevalent.
