The Eastern Mediterranean Public Health Network (EMPHNET), in collaboration with the Jordan Ministry of Health (MoH), recently conducted a series of field visits to sentinel sites across Jordan. These visits, led by EMPHNET’s Disease Control and Prevention Team (DCT) along with MoH representatives, are part of the ongoing Meningitis and Septicemia Mapping Network (MenMap) project activities. The goal of these visits is to ensure that each site is following standardized protocols and to address any emerging challenges.
The team visited the sentinel sites of Princess Rahma Hospital in Irbid, Al-Karak Governmental Hospital, Al-Bashir Hospital in Amman, and Al-Zarqa Governmental Hospital. The visits provided a valuable opportunity to assess the project’s progress on the ground, verify adherence to the project’s procedural standards, and offer direct support to hospital teams.
By closely working with field teams at each site, EMPHNET’s DCT and Jordan’s MoH representatives were able to identify and proactively address any operational concerns, further enhancing the smooth and coordinated implementation of the MenMap project. This approach will strengthen site operations, promote consistency across all sentinel sites, and support effective project progression within the MenMap network.
MenMap is an international initiative designed to bridge gaps in research, clinical practice, and public health policies to prevent bacterial meningitis and septicemia caused by Neisseria meningitidis (N. meningitidis), Streptococcus pneumoniae (S. pneumoniae), and Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib). The network, composed of public and private sector researchers, seeks to bolster laboratory diagnosis, epidemiological surveillance, and knowledge transfer to policymakers and healthcare providers in countries where the diseases are most prevalent.
